Even faster shared hosting — LiteSpeed 5.4 is here!
- Friday, 16th August, 2019
There's some great news to share, but first up, you may be reading this and wondering, what's LiteSpeed?
LiteSpeed is commercial software, and essentially, it makes it possible for website content to be served to your browser (like Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox). There are a few different alternatives to LiteSpeed, including Apache, Nginx, and IIS. We use LiteSpeed due to the performance and security features it offers, allowing our client's websites to be online and loading fast around-the-clock.
As of today, all of our servers have been updated to LiteSpeed version 5.4. It has been in development since 2018, with the first release candidate build being released in January 2019. In July, it was pushed to the stable tier, and considered ready for production use.
If serving content over HTTP/2 HTTPS, it's up to 5x faster than the previous version! Other notable improvements include an updated version of Google QUIC (with improved stability). The full changelog can be found on the official LiteSpeed website, here.
We hope you enjoy your faster web hosting, and of course, we welcome any questions!
